With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, consider incorporating a little Hungarian in the lives of those you love by wishing them Boldog Bálint Napot! Happy Valentine’s Day! While Valentine’s Day is more of a U.S. custom there is nothing wrong with adding a Hungarian touch to your celebration. If you don’t speak Hungarian, szeretlek “I love you” is quite possibly the most important first phrase to learn and can come in handy for February 14th!
There are many ways to express your love for others. You don’t have to be creative to buy a big cookie at the mall and ask them to write “szeretlek” on it. Most people do not tire of hearing the words “I love you” whether in English or Hungarian but you can also express your feelings though baking, cooking, serving, or creating. Sometimes the most thoughtful gesture requires little or no expenditure of money.

While there are many mézeskalács artists in Hungary, we do have a few in the United States and their work is beautiful. Tünde is one of them.
