Mulled Wine – Forralt Bor
February 5, 2020

Mulled Wine is a wonderful treat during the holidays. I love being in Hungary during the winter time when it is readily available. It can be made with either red or white wine!

Mulled Wine – Forralt Bor

To every 750 ml bottle of inexpensive red wine (i.e. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot or Shiraz), add the following:

2/3 cup of honey or sugar, honey is better!

3 cinnamon sticks

1 whole orange with cloves stuck in it

8-10 cloves

Optional: star anise, little fresh ginger, cardamom. Experiment a little to find what you love!

Combine the ingredients in a large pot over low to medium heat and warm carefully. Keep below a simmer for 20-25 minutes, stirring frequently. Despite the Hungarian name, forralt bor (boiled wine), don’t boil the wine. We like to put this in a crockpot and leave it on low.
